*Phonic skills included: short a, short i, short o, short e, short u, ending ck, floss rule, digraphs, qu words, initial blends, nasals, three-consonant blends, r-controlled, cvce, hard/soft c&g, ay/ai, ee/ea, ow/oe/oa, igh/y, short oo/long oo, tch/dge, au/aw, ow/ou, oy/oi, inflections

How to Use:
You may choose to laminate each page for future use or simply print one sheet out per student. There are colored pages and black & white pages for your convenience. Pass out one die to each student.

  • Students roll the die and read the word that matches the number.

  • Then, students roll again and read the next word that matches that number.

  • Students will continue to read and re-read words for as long as time allows.

Partner Play:

  • Students share one die. Player #1 goes first and rolls a number. Then he or she reads the word that matches that number. Then it’s Player #2’s turn. Play continues until time allows.

  • One great aspect of partner play is that students get the chance to hear other peers reading the words aloud as well.

Why was this resource created?

❓ I don't know about you, but over the years, I have tried to mix and match phonics activities that will best support my students. Most of the time, the curriculum I am using just does not cover everything that I need it to. The problem is that there are so MANY things out there, that we can easily get overwhelmed with what to use. Phonics instruction should be explicit and systematic (that's what research tells us) but it should also be CONSISTENT.

🌟 That's exactly why I created these phonics lesson plans and accompanying activities aligned to science of reading research and best practices. Our ultimate goal when we sit down to do a phonics lesson is to TEACH our students how to decode. This is why the activities we do should be CONSISTENT. We don't want our students to have to learn a new game or exercise every time they come to our table (although games on the occasion are a must). We want them to know exactly what to expect so they can focus all of their brain power on learning HOW to read. That's why I am so passionate about the lessons shared in this science of reading phonics kit I am about to share with you! The Phonics Lesson plans are EXPLICIT... SYSTEMATIC... and the activities are consistent from week to week.
