Why We Love It

There’s nothing better than an activity that includes ALL of the phonics skills, is there!?  No prep, all the work done for you, and you simply print and go.  We have such limited time as teachers, that it’s such a treat when some of the heavy lifting is done for us while we’re doing…well, more heavy lifting!

This SPIN & COLOR phonics game is sure to keep your kids learning and entertained during a partner session, independent work, or literacy center.  Because the directions are clear and simple, it’s easy for students to work on this while you’re in small group.  What’s great about this game is that it’s a fun way to practice all the phonics skills.  Students will practice “picking out” phonics skills from each word and sharpen their knowledge on each skill.

Plus, who doesn’t love a colorful array of words at the end of an activity?  This SPIN & COLOR is just what you need for any center, or even in your “fast finishers” bin for students to grab if they’ve finished another activity early.

How to Use

This activity’s directions are written for a single student, but can easily be played with partners. There’s no need to laminate for this one, as the students will be coloring on it.

1. Students will take the tip of a pencil and a paperclip to use as a spinner.

2. Students will spin the spinner and land on a phonics skill.

3. They will then find the word in a grid with that phonics skill and color it according to the chart.

4. Students take turns spinning and coloring until all of the phonics skills have been colored!
